Morgan City Recreation Department Youth Softball League

The Morgan City Recreation Department Youth Softball League provides a fun, safe, and supportive environment for young athletes to learn and enjoy the game of softball. The program is designed to offer a wholesome recreational outlet while teaching the core values of sportsmanship, teamwork, cooperation, discipline and fair play.

Through age-appropriate instruction and game play, participants develop fundamental softball skills while building confidence and respect for others.

League Divisions & Age Eligibility

Age eligibility is determined by the child’s age on or before January 1 of the current year:

Rookie League (Ages 6–8):
Youth who are or will be six (6) years old before January 1 and will not turn nine (9) on or after January 1 of the current year.

Minor League (Ages 9–11):
Youth who are or will be nine (9) years old before January 1 and will not turn twelve (12) on or after January 1 of the current year.

Registration Requirements & Fees

Applications will not be accepted unless complete. Each application must include:

A copy of the child’s birth certificate

Parental/guardian signatures

$45.00 registration fee

No child will be denied participation due to financial hardship. Parents who are unable to afford the player fee must notify the Recreation Department. A meeting will be scheduled with the Youth Baseball Board to determine payment arrangements.

    Parents or guardians are responsible for ensuring their child is physically able to participate prior to enrolling.

    Parent & Spectator Expectations

    Parents are an essential part of the Youth Softball League and are expected to support the program’s goals at all times. To maintain a positive experience for all participants, the following guidelines apply:

    Unsportsmanlike or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated.

    The Youth Softball Committee administers all league functions. Any concerns must be addressed directly to the Committee; disruptive or subversive behavior will not be allowed.

    Derogatory or abusive language or actions toward league supervisors, umpires, or coaches are strictly prohibited.

    Fan enthusiasm is encouraged; however, behavior that embarrasses or ridicules opposing teams will result in removal from the park.

    Violations of these rules will result in penalties determined by the Committee and may include removal of parents and/or players from Recreation Department activities.

    Players may be removed from the program due to rule violations by their parents.

    Photo Permission

    The Morgan City Recreation Department utilizes participant photos to publicize the activities of each sport and the accomplishments of its participants. If you do not wish for your child to be pictured in any media (website, Facebook, newspaper, etc.) send a signed and dated letter advising of your wishes that will be placed on file in the office.

    By NOT sending a letter, you are granting the Morgan City Recreation Department the right to publish and print your child’s name and/or likeness on the MCRD website on the internet and/or the world wide web and further, release, indemnify and hold harmless the Morgan City Recreation Department, and its employees from any and all claims and /or damages on behalf of yourselves and your child arising from the publication of your child’s name, photograph or likeness used by the Recreation Department. This agreement shall remain in force and in effect at all times.
